For their fourth collaboration with French film-making duo Pierre and Pascal Lubois, Sydney via London pop outsiders Saint-Léon commissioned the Lubois Brothers while they were in Los Angeles to create a film that embodies a state of ‘living in a netherworld’. Encapsulating experiences of social alienation, abuse of power and a sense of moving through a life of stilted loneliness, the ‘Fever Dream’ film is a meditation on an eroding sense of hope, of being overwhelmed, and the inevitable need to keep moving through despair.
Featuring haunting moments of LA’s witching hours captured during the Lubois Brothers’ month-long residency last year, ‘Fever Dream’ is soundtracked by Ryan Nicolussi’s haunting auto-tuned vocals and a shuddering electronic backdrop that was eerily written while producer Alister Hill succumbed to a bed-ridden fever.
“When pulled by the extremes, my greatest fear is pity. To summarise large swathes of life that I struggle to understand into a pithy sentiment for people to ‘like’ would forsake the individuals around me who I hold dear, and place society onto a pedestal that I don’t think it deserves. My music with Ryan - and the ‘between moments’ captured by the Lubois Brothers - is a cradle that I’m thankful for and to maintain the belief that whatever happens, everything must keep moving” - Alister Hill, Saint-Léon
