Despite the fact Ryan and I only see each other in the flesh twice a year, we surprisingly don’t discuss much about our lives when we write to each other. There’s a symbiotic sense around the feelings we’re circling - we simply let the music do the talking. When we do meet though, the songs are always in an elemental form - little lyrics and a few musical motifs that fill as the words pore out of each other. We simply settle into our Saint-Léon headquarters in the south of France, and let the music flow through overnight recording sessions with little more than the piano, guitar and drum machine that the Lubois Brothers gave us.

After a few of these marathon recording sessions, our French neighbours started joking when they would see us the next day all dazed, dubbing us the ‘midnight versions’ of Ryan and Alister when we’d be in a haze.

There’s something special about these early musical feelings, so we’ve decided to start releasing these initial ‘Midnight Versions’ of our songs, starting with our latest single ‘Rumours from the Floor’. In keeping with the midnight feeling, you can also hear some of our favourite late night songs that we’ve made into a ‘Midnight Versions’ Spotify playlist - we like to think they have a similar whiff to our all night recording sessions. We recommend listening late. Alone. At home. And on shuffle.

There’s nearly seven hours worth of music, so dip in and find some nice surprises - a sturdy companion to keep you company late at night.
